• Be hungry. Look for lip smacking, hands in mouth.

• Have a dirty or wet diaper.

• Need to burp, if crying after being fed.

• Have an upset tummy.

• Be bothered by something, like clothes that are too tight.

• Be too hot or cold.

• Be tired and need help to sleep.

• Want to be held or swaddled.
